Social Media quotes 3 Quotes That Will Rock Your Social Media World

Let’s face it – after launching your social media channels, it’s easy to put your efforts on cruise control.

You know the routine: wake up, check comments, delete spam, tweet something, post a blog, share to Facebook, blah, blah, blah.

As long as you’re adding more fans and followers, everything’s gravy, right?

Wrong.

After listening to some incredible experts at this year’s South by Southwest Interactive, I’m excited to open my notebook (I was the only person taking notes without an iPad) and share three quotes that completely changed my perspective on social media.

This snippet of genius perfectly defines the interaction between customers and the content you share. Just think – if all you do is post a picture to Facebook, your fans will take a look, and that’s about it.

In other words, if you’re just broadcasting content, your audience can only consume it, which doesn’t do much for building a community of engaged advocates. To take things to the next level, focus on content that enriches your customers’ lives. From there, give them a reason to interact with you, whether it’s by asking them to leave a comment or throwing in a contest.

With all of your content, encourage customers to move from passively viewing to actively engaging – this will do wonders for your social media presence.

I literally had to put my pen down after hearing this one.

Eric was discussing how human psychology impacts how we interact on social media, and he showed a graph that showed a direct correlation between trust and intimacy in all aspects of our lives.

Regarding your social efforts, it’s important to establish trust with your fan base. Why? Because people buy from those they trust. To build trust through social media, start making personal connections with your customers. Avoid the temptation to be a faceless, corporate brand – instead, expose your personality, sign your tweets and comments, and let people know that there’s a real person behind your website.

Moving forward, stop focusing on how to get “likes” and focus on how to get fans to like you.

Sometimes you just have to shake things up a bit. Instead of beating your audience over the head with the same content, try something out of the ordinary.

Admittedly, this is easier said than done, especially if your brand is in a stodgy industry that isn’t known for having fun. You have to realize, however, that no matter what you’re selling, your customers are people, and people like to be entertained and provoked.

To get started, try creating content about something beyond your product. Experiment with racier headlines, tap into pop culture or take a stand on an issue facing your industry. (Of course, you never want to post anything offensive or inappropriate, so do this with caution.)

At the end of the day, don’t be afraid to step out of the box and grab some attention – with so much clutter on social, it’s important to stand out.

.
Pretty awesome insights, aren’t they? Anytime you feel yourself falling into a social rut, use these ideas to help break out of the norm. Not only will you feel rejuvenated, your fans will have a reason to re-engage with you.

And that’s always a good thing.

Happy selling!
